Ed Blackwell, P.E.

Ed joined as a principal at Blackwell engineering in 1993.  He has been working in civil engineering since his graduation from Virginia tech in civil engineering in 1987.  Ed served in the U.S. Army Reserves and graduated from the U.S. Army Engineering School in 1987.  Ed is a registered professional engineer in the State of VA.

Since becoming a part owner of Blackwell Engineering, Mr. Edmond “Ed” Blackwell has specialized in the design of road systems; water, sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems; residential and commercial subdivisions; commercial and industrial building sites; and various hydrologic and hydraulic studies. Projects have ranged from hydraulic designs for golf courses to 500+ unit/lot residential subdivisions to commercial shopping centers. His responsibilities include hands on design, supervision of engineers, designers and CADD operators in plan and specification preparation, and on site field consulting during construction.

Previous to his experience at Blackwell Engineering, Ed worked in the design of roads with all related utilities including specifications and bid documents; cost estimating for civil construction projects; mapping of storm sewer system; hydraulic analysis and preparation of FEMA floodplain data; inspection of road and utility construction. In addition, Ed served six years in the U.S. Army Reserves and National Guard as both an Engineer and Infantry Officer.

You might see Ed on the weekends as an Auxiliary Harrisonburg Police Officer, we just hope it’s not up close and personal! Ed also enjoys spending time at the quarry, playing video games, and eating at Macado’s! Ed is involved in the lives of his 2 grown daughters, his wife and their 2 children at home, his local church, and he has a heart for justice!
