Principal Engineers
As senior principal and founder of Blackwell Engineering, Dick brings over 30 years of valuable engineering expertise to the table. He earned his BS and MS in civil engineering from Virginia Tech in 1946 and 1966 respectively. Dick is a registered professional engineer in the state of VA.
Rick became a principal in the firm in 1993. He has worked in civil and environmental engineering since 1989, and holds a BS in civil engineering from Virginia Tech. Rick is a registered professional engineer in Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky.
Ed joined as a principal at Blackwell engineering in 1993. He has been working in civil engineering since his graduation from Virginia tech in civil engineering in 1987. Ed served in the U.S. Army Reserves and graduated from the U.S. Army Engineering School in 1987. Ed is a registered professional engineer in the State of VA.
Nathan has been working at Blackwell Engineering off and on since 1999. After graduating with a BS in civil engineering from Virginia Tech in 2004, he became a permanent, vital employee. In 2009 Nathan earned his professional engineering license in the State of VA and soon afterwards became the fourth principal of Blackwell Engineering.
Civil Engineering
Jeff earned his BS in Civil Engineering at the University of Akron in Ohio in 2002. As one of Blackwell Engineering’s team leaders, Jeff has expertise with water booster stations and large residential subdivisions. He received his Professional Engineering license in the summer of 2007.
Dick Johnson has been practicing engineering since 1967. He brings his versatile experience to Blackwell and serves as one of our work team leaders. He has a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire.
Basil has worked in the construction and engineering industries since 1979. He is certified by the Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development as a commercial and residential building inspector, and is certified by the International Code Council as a building official. He has a BS in Civil Engineering from Old Dominion University.
Ethan earned his BS in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2006, and has worked in design and engineering since 2000. Ethan has a keen interest in roadway design, stormwater management, and traffic design.
Jet has been part of the civil engineering department at Blackwell since 2005. He has used his knowledge of land development to pursue other interests including real estate and philanthropic work for the town of Elkton.
Martin studied civil engineering at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico. He joined our staff in 2008 when he moved to the Harrisonburg area from Mexico. Martin is very efficient and enjoys finding new ways to improve the look of Blackwell’s drawings.
Environmental Engineering
Tim has worked in the environmental design field since 1999. In addition to design duties, he manages the IT systems at Blackwell. His varied abilities are a great resource for the company.
Dawn has worked in our environmental engineering department since 2005 and has extensive office administration experience. Her working knowledge of environmental issues and drawing requests, makes her an essential part of Blackwell Engineering.
General Administration
Ren joined the staff in 2007, and oversees office and personnel operations for the company. In 2007, she completed a BBA degree in management and human resources at JMU. She also assists with Phase I environmental site assessments and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans.
Cheryl joined our staff in 1997. In addition to her bookkeeping duties, she also assists with Phase I environmental site assessments. She holds a BBA degree in marketing and management from James Madison University.
Karen has been greeting our visitors and callers since 2006. Her bright and cheerful demeanor has made her the perfect first impression for Blackwell Engineering.
Michele has worked for the company since 1994, and is our longest working employee. She holds a BS in office administration from James Madison University. Michele, the wife of Rick Blackwell, keeps the office running smoothly.
